Research Questions
Through a collaborative research process, the Multiliteracies group focused our inquiry on the following broad research questions:
What are the educational opportunities and challenges related to multiliteracies?
How do these challenges and opportunities relate to activities across different areas of life — not only in formal educational institutions per se, but also to informal contexts and activities of learning?
How has the context of globalization influenced multiliteracies?
How do student and teacher perceptions about literacy impact their practices in and out of school?
What is the relationship between print-based literacy and multiliteracies?
What are the characteristics of learning environments that have succeeded in engaging all students in an expanded range of literacy practices?
How can the development of optimal multiliteracy learning environments be supported by large scale assessment policies and practices? What role might portfolio assessment play in legitimating diverse literacy accomplishments and what options exist for integrating alternative assessments with province-wide assessment policies and practices?
What do school leaders need to do to facilitate a multiliteracy approach in the public schools?
